Unlocking Potential: Joining Okta’s Nonprofit Technology Fellows
Okta, the leading identity and access management company, runs a six-month Nonprofit Technology Fellowship as part of their Okta for Good Nonprofit Technology Initiative to help technology leaders grow their impact within their NGOs. I am honored to have been invited into their third and newest cohort.
As this collaborative initiative begins, I am excited about the program’s offer of professional development and am interested in exploring with other fellows the ways we can leverage technology in direct service, collaborating around how we can build and maintain support services, and sharing the wisdom we each gain during the fellowship.
Okta’s fellowship is significant for Human Rights First and the broader nonprofit sector, as it reinforces the importance of strategic partnerships and shows that technological innovation can be a force for good in society.
At Human Rights First, we work to defend and protect human rights around the world. Technology plays an increasingly central role in our efforts to effect meaningful change, whether it’s in our advocating for refugee rights, combating mis- and disinformation, or protecting democracy.
The Nonprofit Technology Fellowship endeavors to harness the potential of technology to amplify our impact, drive systemic change, and transform our world. Through partnership with other nonprofit organizations and Okta, Human Rights First and I will be able to leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance our advocacy, streamline our operations, and expand our reach.
Another significant strength of Okta’s fellowship is the empowering of nonprofits with the tools, resources, and expertise needed to navigate the complex landscape of digital transformation. In an age when technology is both a powerful tool for progress and a potential threat to human rights, my cohort of fellows will continue to learn how best to harness the former while guarding against the latter.
The Nonprofit Technology Fellowship is a partnership that drives positive social change while creating value for all stakeholders involved. By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise from across sectors, my cohort will be able to tackle complex challenges and unlock new opportunities for collaboration and collective action.
By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing between nonprofits, Okta’s fellows can bring innovation and best practices to the nonprofit sector. From enhancing data security and privacy protocols to optimizing digital communication strategies, the insights gained through the fellowship will enable us to operate more efficiently, effectively, and ethically in pursuit of our mission.

By investing in capacity-building and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration in nonprofit organizations, Okta is helping us harness the full potential of technology to create a more just, equitable, and inclusive society for all.
