Veterans for American Ideals (VFAI) is a coalition of veterans and allies who continue their service to America by upholding, defending, and advocating for human rights at home and abroad. VFAI brings the veteran voice to key human rights issues. Some include: protecting the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program designed to help Iraqis and Afghans who assisted U.S. troops; promoting safe communities by encouraging police demilitarization; addressing domestic political extremism; and restoring asylum access at the U.S. border.

In addition to supporting our Afghan allies, VFAI believes that domestic violent extremism and the rise of anti-democratic forces are existential threats to the United States.
In response to the January 6th insurrection, VFAI has addressed the challenge of extremism by helping build civil society’s capacity to confront and roll back violent extremist movements in the United States.
We are building on nearly two decades of research on the rise of extremism abroad in our work to combat online hate speech, racism, and antisemitism; address racism, antisemitism, and bigotry within law enforcement and the military; and push for the demilitarization of domestic policing and immigration enforcement.
VFAI has a long history of working with veterans and our communities to work toward respect for human rights.
