Human Rights First Statement on the Occupation of the U.S. Capitol Building by Pro-Trump Militants

WASHINGTON – Human Rights First CEO Mike Breen gave the following statement about the riot at the United States Capitol:

“Today’s occupation of the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump militants is criminal, dangerous and antithetical to American democracy.

“We should not mince words. Today the United States is witnessing an attempt to overthrow the legitimate will of the American people by force, spurred by the actions and words of the President of the United States.

“It is incumbent on every elected leader of the federal government to immediately condemn these unconstitutional, unlawful actions.”
