White Nationalist Steve Bannon Departs White House, Gorka Needs to Follow

Washington, D.C.Human Rights First today welcomed reports that White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon is leaving his position in the Trump Administration. Prior to his White House appointment, Bannon served as the executive chairman of Breitbart News, a website that has promoted racist, antisemitic, and white-nationalist ideologies. Human Rights First continues to call on President Trump to remove white nationalists from his administration, including his advisor on counterterrorism, Sebastian Gorka, who has known ties to antisemitic and racist groups in Hungary.

“If reports of Steve Brannon’s departure from the White House prove true, it will certainly be a welcome move. But let’s be clear—until this White House rids itself of all voices of white nationalism and intolerance, the country lacks the moral leadership it deserves. President Trump needs to immediately fire Sebastian Gorka, and, more importantly, begin to speak in support of all Americans, not just a racist fringe.”

Human Rights First continues to urge President Trump to make clear that he condemns all forms of antisemitism and intolerance.
