Supreme Court’s Ruling Endangers the Rule of Law, Lives of Eight People

New York, NY–In response to today’s ruling by the Supreme Court, which allows the government to send eight men currently in Djibouti to war-torn South Sudan despite their hailing from other nations, Human Rights Fist’s Anwen Hughes said the following:

“The Supreme Court here rewards the government’s serial violations of a lower court order that sought only to ensure that the United States was living up to its legal obligations not to deport people to torture without a hearing.  This endangers the rule of law as well as the lives of eight human beings who are now at imminent risk due to wildly unsafe conditions in South Sudan.”
