Rights Group Lauds Ruling Barring the Trump Administration from Arresting and Detaining Yunseo Chung

New York, NY – Following Judge Naomi Buchwald’s ruling this afternoon in the case of Yunseo Chung v. the Trump Administration, in which the court rejected the Trump administration’s assertion that it should detain Columbia University student and peaceful protestor Yunseo Chung, Human Rights First’s Josh Colangelo-Bryan said the following:

“Today’s ruling is a victory for Yunseo Chung–and for everyone who believes that the United States must remain a nation of rights and freedom. The court recognized that arresting and detaining a peaceful student protestor would be a gross abuse of the government’s law enforcement power–traumatizing for Ms. Chung, wasteful of public resources, and patently illegal. Quite simply, Ms. Chung has done nothing wrong. We will continue to fight for her First Amendment rights and to prevent the government from arresting, detaining, and deporting someone whose opinions it dislikes.”
