New Citizenship Rule for Children of Some U.S. Troops Self-Defeating, Cruel

Washington, D.C. – In response to a change in USCIS policy affecting the ability of children of some U.S. citizens and their families who are spending time abroad in service of our country, Human Rights First President and CEO Michael Breen issued the following statement:

Penalizing the newborn children of military families for their parents’ service to our nation overseas is self-defeating and absurd. Many of our men and women in uniform serve in order to leave a more secure nation for their children, to deny those children the right to call themselves citizens because of that service is a slap in the face to those who sacrifice a life at home for the good of us all.
