Neil Hicks Responds to Egypt Military Assistance Announcement
Washington, DC – In response to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s announcement that the United States will release $1.3 billion in military assistance to the Egyptian government, Human Rights First’s Neil Hicks said: “The Obama Administration’s unconditional release of aid is short-sighted and damaging to United States interest in Egypt. It sends the message to Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) that creating a peaceful and stable democracy is not a top priority for the United States. It’s a strategic error and will have reverberations for human rights around the world, beyond Egypt.”
