Michael Breen Reflects on the Passing of Daryl Libow

Washington, D.C.—Human Rights First mourns the death of board of directors member Daryl A. Libow, who passed away last Wednesday. Human Rights First President and CEO Michael Breen issued the following statement:

Daryl was an indomitable lawyer driven by the pursuit of justice and fairness. His brilliant legal mind helped advance human rights, strengthen the rule of law, and make his community better. His public achievements speak for themselves, but Daryl was also well-loved for his commitment to the hard and often thankless work of building great organizations.

Human Rights First is better because of his leadership and guidance. As we mourn him, we remain steadfast in our protection of the values he championed in his life.

Libow joined the Human Rights First board of directors in 2015, he served as chair on the organization’s Audit Committee and served on its Executive Committee. Libow was managing partner of Sullivan and Cromwell LLP’s Washington, D.C. office and co-head of the firm’s Antitrust practice. He also served on the boards of both the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and The Ellington Fund of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
