Massimino: Trump’s Remarks are Disgusting and Disgraceful

Washington, D.C.-– In response to reports that President Trump referred to El Salvador, Haiti, and African nations as “shithole countries” during negotiations with lawmakers on legislation to protect DREAMERS, Human Rights First’s President and CEO Elisa Massimino issued the following statement:

“President Trump’s reported comment about people from Haiti, El Salvador, and African countries is disgusting and disgraceful. That the President of the United States would talk this way about people who are fleeing violence and persecution in their home countries is shameful. Congress must not give in to this hateful, racist, and divisive narrative coming out of the White House. America is counting on you to defend human dignity by standing firm for our commitment to protect the persecuted.”

Human Rights First continues to urge Congress to pass clean bipartisan legislation that protects DREAMERS and not sacrifice the safety of refugees and vulnerable families and children to anti-immigrant and anti-refugee voices.
