Human Rights First Urges Senators to Reject Anti-Refugee and Immigrant Poison Pills

WASHINGTON DC – In anticipation of the Senate considering the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, Human Rights First calls on Senators to vote no on any amendment to this legislation that would harm asylum seekers and immigrants and be a “poison pill” that could derail this important legislation.

“The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 seeks to deliver important outcomes to communities across this country and for generations to come,” said Michael Breen, President and CEO of Human Rights First. “Amendments seeking to end asylum by codifying and indefinitely extending the Trump Title 42 expulsions policy would significantly undermine the long history of congressional commitment to providing a fair asylum process in this country, and violate our legal obligations under international treaties and U.S. law. Senators must remain united in opposing all harmful anti-immigrant amendments and deliver for America by passing the agreed-upon Inflation Reduction Act.”

Human Rights First was proud to join the nearly 300 organizations on this letter to the Senate today echoing this call
