Human Rights First Statement on 10th Anniversary of 9/11
Washington, D.C.—Today, Human Rights First issued the following statement marking the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001: “On this 10th anniversary of 9/11, we remember the nearly 3,000 victims of the terrorist attacks and the brave men and women who have died in the line of duty since that terrible day. We express our heartfelt condolences to the families of those lost, and recommit ourselves to honoring their memory and sacrifice by holding fast to the principles of tolerance, human rights, and the rule of law. As our country moves forward, we should recall and seek to recapture the spirit of resilience that sustained our nation in the days following the 9/11 attacks. We have a responsibility to come together to ensure that our national security policies advance—not undermine—America’s role as a global leader in the struggle for human rights. Respect for the principles of human dignity and the rule of law animated the founders our country and should guide all those whose job it is to guard our freedom and security, at home and abroad.”
