Sarah Shalan is a senior at Hunter College through the Macaulay Honors program with a strong passion for human rights. She has dedicated herself to advocating for the rights of marginalized and vulnerable communities through her involvement in human rights clubs and organizations on campus.
As a board member of the Palestine Solidarity Alliance and Pre-Health for Human Rights Society at Hunter College, Sarah has led numerous successful campaigns and initiatives to raise awareness and promote human rights issues globally and in the local community. She has also interned with multiple NGOs and organizations, such as The Asiyah Women Center, Malikah, Legal Momentum, and Yamba Malawi. There she worked on initiatives against gender-based violence and worked for women’s rights and refugee rights.
In the future, Sarah hopes to pursue a master's in human rights studies. She is grateful and honored to serve on the Emerging Leaders Advisory Board at Human Rights First. She’s eager to be able to contribute her skills, knowledge, and experience to further its mission and impact. She looks forward to working with the rest of the board to make a positive difference in the community and beyond.
