Egyptian Military Must Submit to Civilian Control

The greatest danger facing Egypt right now is the continuation of the same despotism from which Egyptians suffered over the past few decades– Mubarakism without Mubarak. The Egyptian military has benefited tremendously from state patronage, such as business operations and preferential access to housing, leisure clubs and others, and they are not willing to give them up so easily. In order for Egypt to transition into democracy, the military rulers must be willing to share power with civilians and ultimately submit to civilian control.
