Coalition Letter to President Obama: Shared Concerns Regarding U.S. Drone Strikes and Targeted Killings

Human Rights First and a coalition of eight additional national organizations are pressing President Obama to provide more information about the U.S. drone war, particularly outside of Afghanistan. In a letter  to President Obama, the groups urged the president to make clear the legal basis for all so-called “targeted killings” outside of Afghanistan, to identify the standards used to decide who is lawfully targetable, and to investigate, track and respond to allegations of unlawful strikes. The letter reiterates requests made eight months ago and is part of a broader effort to urge the United States to ensure that its use of lethal force complies with firmly established international law.
