Litigation Briefing: Protecting the Right to Seek Safety

Date & Time:
Wednesday, April 16, 2025 – 5:30pm – 6:00pm ET / 2:30pm- 3:00pm PT

Audience:
Advocates, attorneys, legal service providers, philanthropists, and other stakeholders working on asylum access and immigrant rights.

Event Overview:
Please join Human Rights First’s Anwen Hughes, Senior Director of Legal Strategy and Legal Initiatives, for a timely litigation briefing focused on the current legal landscape impacting asylum seekers and direct legal actions we are taking. Anwen will share updates on three lawsuits—brought in partnership with the National Immigration Litigation Alliance (NILA), Northwest Immigrants’ Rights Project (NWIRP), Justice Action Center (JAC), the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) and Center for Gender and Refugee Studies (CGRS).

These coordinated legal challenges address recent federal actions that:

  • Remove noncitizens to third countries without notice or the opportunity to present fear-based claims

  • Eliminate categorical parole programs, terminate existing parole, and suspend the processing of other immigration applications

  • Apply mandatory bars to refugee protection during credible fear interviews

These cases, filed within recent weeks of each other, represent a coordinated legal response to protect due process and uphold fundamental human rights.

Register today to hear the latest from the litigation front and learn how Human Rights First is working to defend access to asylum amid escalating policy challenges.

Fuel our fight. Power our legal action. Support our strategic litigation efforts.
